Support PLIRB’s vision for growth and excellence

PLIRB has a proud history of being an independent lifeboat since 1970. We have expanded and strengthened ever since. Our team is strong and growing and we are receiving more complex taskings that cover a wider stretch of the coastline.

We have an ambitious and exciting future ahead – and a four year plan to future proof our service to meet and exceed the expectations of our operations.

STAGE ONE: BOATHOUSE DEVELOPMENT | COMPLETION TARGET: 2026 | ESTIMATED COST: £150,000. THE BOATHOUSE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED IN JUNE 2026 – ON TIME AND ON BUDGET.

STAGE TWO: REPLACE RETIRED RESCUE BOAT | COMPLETION TARGET: 2027 | ESTIMATED COST: £110,000

Stage one: Boathouse development – now COMPLETE!

Through hard work and local generosity we secured the funding to expand and improve our boathouse footprint. We are hugely grateful to everyone who has made this vital step possible.

Thanks to our contractor – Bellco Constructions – the boathouse project was completed in June 2026 and is operational.

Stage two: Lifeboat replacement

As every lifeboat service experiences, the nature of taskings evolves. PLIRB is more frequently tasked to incidents involving casualty vessels that require assistance to a safe harbour.

Our current lifeboat reaches the end of its life in 2027.

The ambition is to upgrade to a slightly larger model (from 5.4 metres to 6 metres) with larger engine capacity. This will provide the extra power to ensure we can respond efficiently and effectively to taskings whilst maintaining the paramount safety of our crew and casualties.
