Support your LOCAL independent lifeboat service.

We are not affiliated to RNLI or the UK Coastguard. All the funding we receive is from the kindness of our supporters and community and through the hard work our volunteers commit to securing funds.

Every donation allows us to continue serving our community – without public support we would not be able to continue. We rely on the goodwill and and generosity of our supporters.

In addition to our increasing annual operating costs, PLIRB has essential projects it needs to finance.

Project one: Boathouse expansion – update October 2025

We have raised the funds to progress with this vital development. Tenders are being sought for the project, with bids requested by 31 October 2025.

Any local firms wishing to submit a proposal should email plirbrescue@gmail.com for a full RFP pack.

Time scale: Build to be complete by end of 2026

Project two: New lifeboat

Our Pulfer Rescue Boat will reach the end of its life as a lifeboat in 2027. We are now fundraising to ensure we can purchase a new boat when the time comes.

We are looking to purchase a slightly larger boat with increased engine power to meet the increased demand for towing casualty vessels over longer distances.

In addition to the RIB itself, we need to equip the boat with appropriate navigation and communication technology.

A major fundraiser for this is our very own Pett Slip Buoys who formed for fun but are now singing publicly to boost our fundraising.

Estimate cost: £110,000
Time scale: Purchase by end 2027

Ongoing: Operational Costs

It costs in excess of £18,000 each year to keep PLIRB operational – and we are required to keep three-years running costs in case of emergency large expenditure. This is a big target for a small charity and every penny we raise ourselves.

Running costs include insurance, utilities, fuel, training, maintenance and repairs, PPE and equipment.

Annual cost: £18,000
